Breakfast was surprisingly good. Location of hotel was good - but difficult to find initially. There is poor signage on the hotel.
In the heart of Cherbourg close to the marina, the Arsenal and the sports complex is the Hotel du Louvre which features a traditional setting and quality comfort.

Very comfortable bed, exquisite view of the harbour.
I love visiting this town. Walks around the town centre for markets shops etc. Then a short trip oiyt past the Naval bas to the beach and the long coastal walks. I love the history, the old forts the magnificent Norman ability to build with stone.
A drive to Barfleur for lunch of musseld and chips was another bonus. A lovely fishing port town off the beaten way with a choice of eateries all good.
Exploring the small restaurants in te smaller villages and town is always rewarding . Remember the French rise early and lunch ends at 2 p.m.
Skip breakfast and enjoy a leisurly early lunch instead!

We visited Cherbourg over Easter.
We visited Cherbourg over Easter. The town was buzzing on Easter Saturday with the food market and people out having drinks...very nice. Unfortunately in the evening there seemed to be a lack of restaurants open with the exception of a few high end places. We ate in the casino & also at our hotel, the Mecure. It's a nice place and a good location to see any D Day beaches/museums. You will need a car.

A really interesting town, great art gallery, and lots of places to visit around the town. It would have been good to stay longer but the weather was pretty bad so two nights were enough.
The extensive road works around the harbour totally confused our satnav and the temporary one way systems were pretty difficult to negotiate.
Loads of choice of restaurants all prices.

We have friends in Cherbourg and will continue to visit.
We have friends in Cherbourg and will continue to visit. But for British visitors, the strange pattern of Brittany Ferries' service from Portsmouth or Poole is a great deterrent for a visit to the Cotentin! Extraordinarily, the service from Portsmouth is one day per week - so you either stay for three hours to return on the same ship, or you stay for one week, or you have a long drive to and/or from Ouistreham.
The only advantage of this, from our point of view, is that it tends to keep some visitors away from the calm and peace of the Cotentin peninsular. We enjoy the lack of crowds - Maybe the Cotentin is a secret worth keeping!

Despite Major road works in progress Cherburg, getting around by car is quite easy. Walking around the town is a pleasurable experience and the harbour walks are must at sunset. Nightlife makes the narrow streets very congested at times and the noise level can disturb your sleep if your hotel is in the main socialising street areas.

Unless you have to visit Cherbourg don’t visit and stay at the moment as they are undergoing a massive refurb and building work is EVERYWHERE and nearly all roads are closed. I will visit again though as people are so lovely. But probably not until 2025.

Perfect location for Ferry services on the western side of Cherbourg. Quiet area and convenient off road parking. Rooms were clean with comfy beds and nice fresh linen. Staff were super friendly and helpful. We had in house Dinner and whilst the menu is simple, the food was excellent being cooked to order. Continental breakfast was equally up to standard with a good selection of breads, cheese, ham, fruit, cereal etc. Very good value, if we pass this way again we will definitely be staying at the Kyriad.
This hotel is a modern building extended into adjacent older properties. Not beautiful but OK. Our room was really spacious and well-equipped. Great value. It is the opposite end of town from the ferry and rail station near the yachting marina, but the town centre takes only about 10 min to walk through so not much of a handicap. BBC World on the TV (English language quite rare in a mid-range hotel in France) and was appreciated as could watch Liz Truss resign live.
So I have stayed in 2018 next door at the Ibis hotel. I wanted the same hotel as I had before but I made the mistake of booking the Ibis Budget hotel next door. I was here doing research for a book I am writing on the German defenses of the second world war in the Cherbourg area as I was in 2018 and needed to take more photographs so the location was ideal. The staff were fantastic. Everyone was very kind and accommodating for the most part.
We were very pleased with this hotel and the customer service received, particularly by Caroline at the Reception who went and extra mile to find us a table in the nearby restaurant before its opening time :). Thank you!
The room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was great with lots of choice and fresh ingredients. If in Cherbourg, we would not hesitate to stay at the Ambassadeur again.
My wife and I were blown away by this hotel. It's so convenient for everything in Cherbourg. Our room was compact and scrupulously clean. There are lots of free parking spaces very close by. Plus Anne is a total character. Breakfast one morning featured Anne singing along to Nina Simone, no less! 🥰
Excellent location for ferry travel. Parking safe and secure, very friendly and efficient reception. Clean and spacious room. Had dinner in the restaurant, very good. We travel with a dog and there is plenty of walking area around the hotel
Modern harbour-side hotel with beautiful views from our excellent seventh floor luxury room. Excellent restaurant on site at very reasonable prices. The reception staff were most welcoming and helpful. All in all a very good experience.
Location and high standard of this apartment. Easy check-in and check out process. Easy contact with the owner. Although we stayed ony one night, this is a perfect place to stay if you are planning to visit De Normandie in France.
Great overnight stop in Cherbourg before catching ferry to UK. Pet friendly and a large open area for dogs across from hotel. Lovely location on the harbour. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Really lovely hotel in the middle of Cherbourg. Close to good bars and restaurants. We were made to feel very welcome. Good comfy room. Good varied breakfast and you could take your time
The breakfast was good. The location was just great within five to ten minutes of the center of Cherbourg and the main shopping area. Eating out was good and the horse meat was tasty.
