Boasting a garden, terrace and views of mountain, Shangri-La Youran Valley Inn is situated in Shangri-La, 700 metres from Guishan Park. I absolutely loved this place! The accommodation is stunning — all in traditional Tibetan style with beautiful wooden details, very clean, and so cosy. The large wooden beds made me feel like a Tibetan princess, and there’s even floor heating which kept the room wonderfully warm. The location is great, only about 5–10 minutes from the main square, but still very peaceful. The price is also very fair for what you get. The owners and staff are simply amazing — they helped us far beyond their responsibilities when we had a medical emergency, and we will be forever grateful. They truly care about their guests. On top of that, they make delicious yak milk tea, which you definitely have to try! It’s very cosy and welcoming inside, and as a bonus, they even have a super cute dog that made the stay even more memorable. This was honestly one of the best stays I’ve had — warm, authentic, and full of heart. Highly recommended!

The host very friendly and provided all the information that we need. The location is good, few minutes to the center of old town. The room was clean and comfortable. Definitely will visit again!

BEAUTIFUL QUITE HOTEL, . Perfect Location between Old Town and Monastery. Very nice People/perfect breakfast with a lot variety. Staff is very helpful and some have a very good English speaking.

Shangri-La is a beautiful town, a little slice of Tibet in Yunnan. You can experience Tibetan architecture and culture without having to get a permit for Tibet proper. Unfortunately, the city is very high altitude. We got altitude sickness pretty badly and had to leave after one night. Next time I would bring some pills or allow enough time to adjust to the height before walking around.

My experience was of the old town mostly and two excursions one to a local monastery and the other to a national park Potatso about half hour away. The old town is pedestrian so that was good. People friendly. Plenty of food choices. Free join in dancing in town square at night. Streets clean. Plenty of taxis to get around.

For me this place is over rated .
For me this place is over rated . Firstly this place is very much " designed" to attract tourism. If it is not for the unique temples , buildings and old villages of the Tibetian, their religion influence internal and to the community there which existed many decades ago, the Nepahai Plains, ShangriLa has not much to offer for tourist. Many business commercialise focuses on food and local delicacies. There are not many heritage location or attractive places to visit. While good natural reserves like Pudacao National Park, a big part of it have been largely closed to visitors. Quite disappointed .

SHANGRI LA is a must destination.
SHANGRI LA is a must destination. Actually Yunnan Province is a must. Every town is so beautiful and exotic.. a dream for the eyes and for the photographers! 3 days per town is a minimum, there is so much to see and the people are really friendly... We could have stayed a week in Shangri La alone, just to be able to explore the area more extensively. We'll definitively shall return!
