Unexpected. And Wonderful. This is a very unique place to stay. The hotel itself is in a building from the 1500’s and is part of an estate that the owner has been meticulously refurbishing. He and his wife are both very interesting people. They also have a wonderful Burnese Mountain dog. The building/hotel owner is an admitted enthusiast of WWII history. During war the building served as the headquarters for a German general and, after D-Day, for General James Lawton Collins. Part of the building now houses a very unique military museum (https://www.tripadvisor.ie/Attraction_Review-g608795-d25576850-Reviews-D_DAY_Collins_Museum-Sainte_Mere_Eglise_Manche_Basse_Normandie_Normandy.html). The bedrooms have all been recently decorated and are beautiful. Each room is named after a WWII general (Eisenhower, Bradley, Collins, etc.) Breakfast was terrific.

We stayed in Sainte-Mere Eglise for two nights in Gite Le Jour. Fantastic location overlooking the church square, with plenty of parking in the square at zero or minimal cost. Facilities were good with a complete kitchen. I went there to find locations in WW2 photographs and found that Gite Le Jour is actually in many of the 1940s vintage photos. bonus!
