Really nice japanese style room, very comfortable and provided everything needed. Shared onsen was beautiful. Japanese breakfast was very tasty.

We had a wonderful stay at Shiroyamakan. The 4th-5th generation of this family to run the inn are lovely and you can tell that they have a lot of pride and passion for their work and culture. The food was fantastic with mainly homemade and local resources. We especially appreciated the tour by car from the father on the first day to get some pointers for our own exploration. He also helps with taking photos at the observation deck and is all in all a fun and lovely man. Another plus is that in the morning you get a head start to see Shirakawago before most of the tourist busses arrive. Highly recommend staying here on your visit to Shirakawago, it has been our top experience in Japan so far.

We have been traveling Japan for almost 2 months now, and this was by far our favorite place to stay. The host is very sweet, accommodating and attractive. The view from the place was great. There was cheap snacks, beers, water, vine available. I big nice common room, where you felt welcome. Just a wonderful experience. Would stay here again any time. We stayed there for four nights. There was free green tea and drip coffee. And the tea kitchen was clean, and had all the essentials for simple cooking.

The room was beautiful and comfortable, bathroom was perfectly clean and well equipped, the location was ideal and the best part were the hosts: they were extremely kind and friendly, they definitely made the whole stay a tremendous pleasure. We had a fantastic stay. The house was great and the family where such lovely host. If you don’t go there you really miss an opportunity. The whole family made our stay an event to remember. The venue is one of a kind and absolutely worth the 30m trip from Takayama. You really feel like traveling back in time. We experienced how little it takes to have a great childhood and astonishing beautiful environment. We can only recommend the place. The accommodation location is excellent. The room has a very beautiful view. The hosts are very friendly and take good care of us. The room is clean, the bathroom is clean. I'm sorry we only stayed for one night. I still want to stay here a little longer. If we have the opportunity, we will definitely come back again. Initially, I was worried because it was our first time driving in the snow in Japan. But the route was very convenient and not difficult to drive at all. If you're considering staying here, don't hesitate. The view is stunning, and you have to see it with your own eyes.

At Akaokan, guests can relax in the spacious public hot-spring baths and visit the Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, situated a 20-minute drive away.

Me and my girlfriend went to do the White Road. We were VERY happy with this hotel. The staff was so so nice, and the food was excellent! We were treated like royalty. And the bath hot spring is to die for. Plus free yukatas to wear! Very happy
