Everything Best hospitality, owner are very Nice people and kind. Very good sake too. Everything local. Clean The room with outside bathub was really stuning The area was Nice, slow Life japan. With an amazing smell of Cedar wood. Nice Onsen and seesith in doragawa. They accept tattoo !!

The feeling of staying in a old genuine Japanese house. They put a blanket on the table which reaches the floor, and there is a heater under the table. Great way to keep warm while sitting at the table. in the main house, the bedroom is on the first floor and the bathroom on the main floor, which means navigating steep stairs if you need to get up in the middle of the night.

What can I say about this magical mountain place that paints the right picture? It is very difficult to explain and this wasn't even during sakura season... First of all, I definitely had the best room by luck and an incredible view of the forest. This meant I was meeting an animal every day, just through my window. I saw a deer mum and her baby, briefly a tanuki and twice I saw a musasabi. Even if you don't see them, you will definitely hear the musasabi! As for the place itself, the room is very carefully decorated and well kept as is the whole property. I could've genuinely stayed inside the whole time, but the nature is a must. There are incredibly tall trees and a very charming street with restaurants and shops as well as the temple and more, but you need to walk uphill to it if you don't have a car. The host may be able to drive you as he is very welcoming and I must not forget to mention, the amazing food! Be ready to eat a lot and experience a variety of impressive flavours. Bonus: you can enjoy a calm garden if you don't want to go on adventures and there is a cute sleepy shiba inu mascot called Tetsu. I genuinely can't emphasise enough how much I enjoyed this place and area. It was a treat for myself, but it truly surprised me. Thank you to the whole team for making it so comfortable, this was especially appreciated as a solo traveller. Can't wait to be back, maybe with sakura blooming :)

Serene. Spacious. Beautiful view even if the cherry blossom is later this year. Amazing Onsen. Lovely staff and amazing food. So glad we had this experience.

This is a fabulous old temple building with traditional rooms, kind, considerate hosts, beautifully prepared food that catered for vegetarians for 3 days in beautiful surroundings. Half board is not cheap but we don’t begrudge a penny. Such lovely people.

The area was beutiful with some lovely walks. Great for a relaxing time. The host realy went above and beyond. I don't think there is a walkable shop but the hotel is also a restaurant.

Staying at Eko-in was an exceptional and unforgettable experience. I highly recommend booking the Okunoin cemetery night tour—it was both atmospheric and deeply moving. The meals are fully vegetarian and beautifully presented. If you're not a fan of tofu, some of the dinner dishes might not be to your taste—but that, too, is part of the cultural and spiritual experience. I was initially anxious about sleeping on a traditional futon, but it turned out to be surprisingly comfortable and added to the overall sense of authenticity. A truly unique stay.

We had an unforgettable stay at Satsuki! The host is truly a heartwarming person – incredibly kind, caring, and always there when you need help. After we got lost while hiking, he kindly came to pick us up. We also had some amazing, heartfelt conversations with him – such a beautiful and thoughtful soul! He speaks perfect English and gave us great insider tips and restaurant recommendations. Thanks to him, we had the best Okonomiyaki at a nearby local spot – so delicious and unique! It was a completely different experience from Tokyo, where things often felt more impersonal. Here, everything was filled with warmth and sincerity. We also enjoyed a typical Japanese breakfast, which was simple, delicious, and such a special experience. It’s those little moments that make a Japan trip feel truly complete and authentic. The house is cozy, peaceful, and perfect for hiking. There are supermarkets nearby, and the whole area has a romantic and relaxing vibe. It’s an ideal place for couples, nature lovers, or anyone seeking a quiet break from the big cities. We felt completely at home and are already looking forward to coming back.
