And the onsen is great for soaking away jetlag. Close enough to Hakone for a daytrip.

Guests can enjoy garden views. We enjoyed our stay in traditional Japanese ryokan. For us it was a first experience and we truly could feel the relaxing atmosphere and hospitality. Traditional Japanese breakfast is very interesting to try, it’s more like a ceremony and restaurant’s stuff is extremely nice and professional. The location is also good, it’s a short walk to Shuzhenji walking area. The hotel has a nice landscape, every house has its own privacy.

The evening meal was a delicious curated seasonal multi-course menu, with tender wagyu beef as the highlight. The staff were so attentive even though we had very limited Japanese. And of course the room, onsen and view were amazing.

Guests staying at this ryokan have access to a balcony. Guests have access to a hot spring bath, public bath and open-air bath. Our favourite of the four ryokan we had the pleasure of experiencing in Ryokan. What tipped it was the incredible staff, who went to every effort to make us feel welcome throughout, and managed to walk a perfect line between friendly and professional. We were particularly grateful to the one lady who took charge of both our meals directly; this personal touch - making sure you have the same point of contact throughout your stay - seems to be a feature of Ushiogumo, and was very much appreciated. The room and rotenburo overlooking the beach is beautiful, with ample amenities including a charming coffee stand in the adjoining powder room. Dinner was also excellent, with each course prepared and brought to us individually in our private dining area, as well as a sake tasting set that I thought was extremely generous in its proportions. In fact, I think maybe the most skillful aspect of the whole arrangement is that Ushiogumo does well to screen guests from one another, so that you have the impression that the whole ryokan is put on entirely for your benefit.

Featuring family rooms, this property also provides guests with a sun terrace. Everything. Knowing how amazing our stay was, we wish we had stayed 2 nights instead of 1. The e-bikes were a hit, as was the evening meal and the onsen. Room was extremely comfortable. Staff were lovely.
