The room is very beautiful, clean and there is all you need for a comfortable stay. Ji is amazing. I highly recommend a short or longer stay at the Ji Family Courtyard Inn.

Rooms are quiet and minimalist with great water pressure, reliable fast Wi-Fi, plenty of bedside outlets, and strong AC/heat. The bed and linens meet Western comfort standards. Breakfast can be chosen Chinese or Western—I tried both during my stay and each was fresh, well-presented, and generous (fresh juice and good coffee/tea included). Staff were proactive and friendly, arranged luggage pickup from the city gate, and communicated smoothly in English. The location is perfect for walking the lanes yet peaceful once inside the courtyard. Tips for Western travelers: cars can’t enter the old town, so message the hotel for pickup; wear comfortable shoes; and leave time to simply enjoy the courtyard—part heritage museum, part modern gallery. A flawless stay.

I really made the right choice with this homestay in Pingyao! The location is absolutely a hidden gem—just a two-minute walk gets you to Rishengchang Bank, so there’s no need to get up early to soak in the Jin merchant culture. It’s super convenient to head back for a break after visiting the attractions. What’s more, the surrounding area is bustling with life. When you stroll out in the evening, the lanterns light up, and old shops and street food stalls are right in front of you, full of that lively, authentic vibe. No need to hunt for places to eat; just step into any spot, and it’s sure to be delicious. The biggest surprise, though, is the service here—they truly take care of every little detail. When I checked in, the owner warmly introduced local attractions, even telling me which shop has the most authentic Pingyao beef and the best time to visit Rishengchang to avoid crowds. That kind of thoughtful care makes the whole trip feel so warm. I’ll definitely stay here again when I come back to Pingyao. Great location, amazing atmosphere, and service that’s second to none—highly recommended!

The owner and his daughter did everything to make us feel at home. The place was really beautiful, our room was cozy and warm. They cooked us breakfast even if we had to leave early in the morning. They were so kind to take us to the train station. If you come to Pingyao this is the perfect place to stay!

Our stay at this hotel was unforgettable. The property itself is a masterpiece—a beautifully restored 15th-century traditional Chinese building that looks spectacular both inside and out. The moment you step in, you feel the history: wood carvings, antique details, and a serene courtyard atmosphere. At the same time, the rooms feature superb high-tech interior design, combining heritage and modern luxury perfectly. Breakfast was delicious every morning, with fresh, flavorful dishes that were a real highlight of our stay. The hotel’s central location made it easy to explore the area on foot. We would also like to thank our wonderful hostess. She was funny, kind, and extremely helpful, always available to assist with anything we needed. Our driver was equally fantastic—professional, safe, and very knowledgeable about the area. He made transportation and sightseeing effortless. This hotel delivers heritage, beauty, comfort, and hospitality at the highest level. We would gladly stay here again.

五福居 Five Blessings Hotel is gelegen op 1,4 km van het centrum van Datong, op minder dan 1 km van Nine Dragon Screen, en biedt accommodatie met airconditioning, een patio, gratis fietsen en een tuin. The staff, especially the boss was really nice, he picked us up and introduced some spots in datong. Upgraded the room for us and it was very comfortable, spacious and beautiful.. Location was slightly further from there the activities are but adds on to the traditional vibes. The boss also offered to pick us up when we are done, but we chose to walk back after a good meal.

Elsewhere Hotel Inn Ancient City Center Branch is gelegen in Pingyao, op 3 minuten lopen van Zhangdan Pavilion, en biedt kamers met airconditioning en een tuin. Midden in het hart van de oude stad. Super vriendelijke mensen en willen je bij alles helpen. Als je het hotel uit stapt zit je gelijk in de drukke winkelstraat met allerlei leuke restaurantjes en winkeltjes, maar als je het hotel instapt is het een oase van rust. Het matras lag op de grond dus ik had verwacht dat het hard zou liggen maar dit is totaal niet het geval, matras ligt prima! Badkamer was modern en alles was super schoon. Het hotel ligt in een voetgangersgebied waar je niet kunt komen met auto of brommer. Je moet 5 min lopen vanaf waar de taxi je afdropt aan de rand van de stad. Toen we weggingen kregen we nog een cadeautje mee. Absoluut een aanrader dit hotelletje.
