This was our first time doing a safari and it would take a lot to top it! Jordan and Bernard were our safari guides/trackers, they found the big 5 within our first 2 days. They both had great stories to tell and we had a good laugh together! Beyond the drives, the food and the pools at the resort were amazing. We watching a group of 6+ elephants playing in the water whilst we watched from the pool! The lodge was so easy to reach from the airport in Hoedspruite we were picked up from right outside and it only took around 25 minutes to get to the lodge. Overall amazing experience!

The property is lush, with animals everywhere, including some visiting us at breakfast and in our tent. We stayed in a magnificent tent facing a river with hippos constantly appearing to greet us. The hospitality of the Phelwana team could not have been better. Rating 11 out of 10! Although I am always lucky enough to receive good service, at Phelwana Game Lodge I received the best treatment of my life in all my travels. Service like no other! Honorable mention to Jo-Ann and Sly, people of unparalleled kindness. They helped make our trip to Hoedspruit a true dream. The food here is amazing. It can't be explained in words. We thought we were only going to crash for a night after a long flight and before starting a safari the next day, but we were absolutely mind blown by how amazing everything was. Perfect location in the middle of what is called "Wildlife Estate" which gives you a chance to see wild animals strolling nearby (we almost saw all the same animals we saw on the safari strolling around the lodge), this is an astounding place with a beautiful room which makes you feel you're in a dream! Last but not least - Ruan and Jenny were very friendly and informative on things to do, and even gave us recommendations about Cape Town which was our next stop. For a small fee, we pre-arranged dinner (which was delicious and cooked by one of their chefs) and transfer from the Hoedspruit airport as well. Communication was easy and Ruan was very responsive. It was such a shame that we only spent one night - had we known how calm and beautiful it all was, we would have 100% extended our stay. So sad to have left but I rave about it. There couldn't have been a more perfect welcome to South Africa.

I loved the host. Super friendly and very attentive. Paid a lot of attention to our long list of requests. We were lucky enough to see a few animals at a close range very beautiful felt one with nature. The pictures don’t even do justice it’s a must experience in person. The place is quiet and very relaxing… everything was as promised and perfect to our liking.
