FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

One thing I was surprised about was the cost of food when eating out. Compared to Sydney/NSW prices, it was great! Good value and generous servings everywhere I ate. Once I got my head around the Myki card on my Android phone, travel was a breeze. The daily capped rates are way below NSW Opal card prices.

Melbourne is one of the best cities in the world.

Melbourne is one of the best cities in the world. Definitely world’s sporting capital. It had everything bayside beaches (and surf - a day trip), great art gallery, botanical gardens and Arts precinct. Very multicultural and this is reflected in the range of cuisines available. The coffee culture is equal to Europe. Love, love, love this city.

Melbourne is a great city to visit with many interesting things to see and do - we went to see 'MJ the musical' at Her Majesty's Theatre and was well worth the ticket price. The shopping is outstanding and the variety of good quality restaurants is difficult to match. In particular, we enjoyed Movida and Nobu. Just a shame about the weather when we viisted (6-10 November).

In Melbourne there are plenty of concerts, theatres, and sporting activities to do. And Melbourne has great public transport! I loved the food & coffee in the Brunswick & Carlton area. I recommend a tour of The Great Ocean Road! With, Wine Hop And Coastal Tours; via GetYourGuide. My tour guide was, Emily. Heads up:- Suggest packing some warm clothes and a raincoat. It’s needed all year around in Melbourne!

I found Melbourne to be a very interesting and aesthetic...

I found Melbourne to be a very interesting and aesthetic city with wonderful lanes and cafes. I was not happy with the VLine travel advisor - I went to the Hub at Southern Cross Station specifically for a map of Melbourne Central with tram and stations as well as roads and landmarks. The advisor (Sam) gave me two maps and made annotations about stop and line etc which did not have the detail I asked or to enable me to navigate the streets. As an afterthought he gave me a Visitor booklet for sightseeing. I used the maps he annotated but became lost. My phone does not work in Melbourne for some reason. I was lost all of Saturday and one of my daughters was so upset she refused to attend the concert we had booked for Saturday night. I was looking at the visitor booklet on Sunday and found a map of Melbourne with all of the features I had asked for. This was not given to me with any comment. I felt that "Sam" was being tricky. It clearly meant nothing to him whether we found our way around Melbourne. My impression of Melbourne apart from the hotel is smart alec ungenerous people who resent visitors. I will not be back to Melbourne in a hurry. Thank goodness for the Hotel. We ate room service meals for two days because we could not find anything in the streets.

The Victoria Hotel is in a good location in the Melbourne CBD. Easy to walk to many attractions as well as close to the city circle tram. The reception staff were lovely & helpful. Unfortunately the rooms were not being cleaned until late afternoon & therefore we missed having the room cleaned a couple of times. The room was big enough for 4 people, unfortunately the bathroom was tiny. It made it hard to get ready. Overall the accommodation was okay, however nothing special.

The room was spacious, comfortable and well thought out, down to the minute details. The breakfast buffet had plenty of options and the onsite facilities (such as the gym) were great. The staff were very lovely and super helpful. This hotel is in an excellent location where you have great access to Melbourne CBD but you get peace and quiet at night because you’re not right in the centre of the city.

The hotel is located quite centrally within Melbourne's CBD, which is quite convenient. Flagstaff station (trams, trains, busses) is just across from the hotel. Moreover, the hotel's tram stop is within the city's "Free Tram Zone", which allows you to get to most places of interest within the city centre quickly and at no extra cost.

Fantastic location to visit everywhere in Melbourne. Just few minutes walk to Southern Cross station, bus stops and free trams for CBD. The best part is just 5 mins walk from sky bus station which is the easiest way to enter city center from MEL airport. The room is clean and comfort.

Excellent location for trains and trams in Melbourne CBD, hotel is clean and quiet. Directly opposite the Spencer Street station and shopping outlets. Taxi/driver booked through Booking.com from airport was very nice, both vehicle and driver.
