Chaitén a lovely little town.
Chaitén a lovely little town. Its volcanic history is awe inspiring. Really interesting. Lots of places closed though, and it’s summer!! Seems a bit like a ghost town at weekends. We tried a few other places which turned out to be dirty holes, but still required 40000clp per night. This place is on top of the biggest supermarket in town, centrally located, wonderful cafe across the street. The staff is best of all. They found us someone to do the laundry, for instance. We saw seals, swans, penguins and dolphins close to the shore minutes after arriving. We were simply stopping over for one (very wet) night in Chaitén before catching a ferry, but Hector - our host - was so welcoming, lit a fire and made the cabin super cozy. The hotel has a great -almost Alpine- vibe. The fish in the restaurants comes from the lake itself and they catch it themselves.
