⚠️ Warning for travelers: I booked Hotel Am Rathaus in Flensburg via Booking.com, but for some reason my booking date suddenly shifted — it started on the day I was supposed to leave. I contacted directly the hotel for cancelation (hotel confirmed) and after again the hotel twice by email, but they never replied at all. Now I gave them a long time to react, but the money seems lost and I lost my patience. Because of this booking error and the hotel’s silence, I ended up paying almost twice for my stay. I recommend being very careful when booking this hotel through Booking.com — this combination can be a risky and frustrating experience, especially if anything goes wrong. Flensburg is a hidden gem, especially for Americans. We were told many times that they don't see many Americans in Flensburg, and for us we liked that. The people are very friendly and welcoming. Our first visit to this interesting town. It was lovely looking at the courtyards along Roter Straße & strolling through the pedestrian area & alongside the harbour. Unfortunately, the main street is dirty, rubbish everywhere, front gardens mainly not maintenanced. But where we had dinner it was a big open plaza had open air concert -good atmosphere and bins everywhere alongside security staffs... So sad that we only stayed for one night. The city is very lovely and people are very friendly where we had breakfast and late lunch. Our visit was timed around a performance at the Theatre which we particularly wanted to see. Besides that, we found the art museum’s current exhibition well chosen. The town is compact, full of variety, offers plenty of restaurants and unusual boutiques. A pleasant, international atmosphere.
