Castres is a good centre for visiting Languedoc-Roussillon. Albi (not to be missed) and Carcassonne within easy reach. Goya museum splendid. Castres is a lovely town , beautifully decorated for Christmas. Lovely Christmas Markets , very family oriented. However , not a lot of restaurants open Christmas Eve even for lunch and a many closed from the 23 rd of December till end of first week in January ! An historic and vibrant town, chock-full of excellent bars, cafes and restaurants. Rarely have we seen so many establishments. Covid has closed some of the historic buildings and the Goya museum is shut for a year for major restoration. The tourist office was first-class, so helpful. Myriad shops of every kind in gorgeous little sidestreets, a wonderful covered market selling mouthwatering meats, charcuterie, cheese, spices, wine etc. and open every day.
