The cottage was in a good location to visit other parts of the Lake District. Narrow roads but not too busy. We ate in the Cottage in the evening but visited the local pub, just a short walk away, for a pre-dinner drink. We bought some wonderful local bacon from the shop. The Shop was surprisingly well stocked. The Cottage is not in Ambleside which was a good thing as there was a Beer Festival the whole weekend we were there and Town was packed. There’s so much to do in Ambleside, and I think I’ll definitely come again in another season. You can enjoy poetic walks, explore local heritage sites, or even catch a movie or a play. For the sporty ones, there’s hiking, biking, water sports, and even rock climbing. During my stay, there were a few rainy days and even Storm Amy, but none of that changed the beauty of the Lake District. I’ll surely be back — again and again.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Ambleside is a great base for outdoor activity in the Lake District with good public transport connections, plenty of shops (including specialist gear shops) and restaurants, cafes and pubs. I do like Ambleside area and Log House isn't in the town...
I do like Ambleside area and Log House isn't in the town centre which I prefer, the town centre is almost a mile from Log House but you can get a bus into the centre if needed. Also you can get the boat from Waterhead Pier which is just a short walk from Log House and goes to Bowness and also Lakeside and you can get buses/trains to Keswick and Kendal and lots of other places around the lakes. And Hayes Garden Centre is just minutes away and is one of the largest in the area, lots to see and do and eat in there. As I was there just for one night I just took my own filled rolls and milk and biscuits but if had been a longer stay would have either gone to Hayes Garden Centre for a meal or over the road to Bassa and there are plenty eating places in the area. I like Bowness too and have stayed there for many years and plenty cafes, restaurants and fish and chip shop and ice cream shops and souvenir shops too.Guest review byChristineUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Ambleside itself is a very sweet little town.
Ambleside itself is a very sweet little town. We stayed in the outskirts which I would definitely recommend as it gets very busy and overwhelming. The streets and paths are quite small and not built for the foot traffic it gets. It's a really nice spot to visit in the evening for some food or a pint after a long day of hiking. Not a cottage for people with walking difficulties as the bathroom is on the top floor, but that's the design. Highly recommend this cottage!
