We had two dinners at Royal Oak. The first was rather disappointing. When we returned to town a week later, we had an exceptional dinner in their beautiful peacock blue dining room. Regardless of which visit, staff were uniformly kind and warm. Our room was comfortable and breakfast was again excellent, both in quality of the raw materials and care in preparation.

Everything— the owner, the upgraded room, the location, the town and ESPECIALLY a superb Welsh breakfast. We had a flight cancellation and missed a night so the owner kindly and generously upgraded us to a huge and comfortable room with a spacious sparkling bathroom. Lots of coffee and extras as well.

Loved Betws-y-coed! Such a pretty place.

Loved Betws-y-coed! Such a pretty place. Quite small but lots of independent, quality shops. Nice places to eat and drink throughout the day and the evening and it felt very safe to walk around after dark. Road network is good, we had no problems finding parking spaces (our accommodation had no on-site parking), some was free on street parking but when we had to resort to designated car parks, they weren’t extortionate which was a nice surprise. Would quite happy return there again

The Town has a good many shops selling outdoor clothing, a number of cafes and hotel/restaurants. A small bakers but not a decent handy supermarket if you are self catering. Take your time exploring the town but don't expect too much. Good service and good food at the nearby Swallow Falls Inn. The Swallow Falls themselves are disappointing

Pretty Village focused around a railway station within a...

Pretty Village focused around a railway station within a steep sided valley. Several camping / outdoor shops but don't expect bargains as the prices are similar or even slightly higher than elsewhere due to the "captive audience" of people in the area to enjoy the outdoors. Many eating out options, most of which are also hotels and offer broadly similar menus of "pub grub" / "grill" type food. Also a very popular Indian restaurant and a couple of Pizza places, and one Tapas. The Chinese was closed when we visited. If you prefer to self cater there is a Spar and a Londis with a decent bakery within the Spar. We visited at the end of the school holiday season and we thought all the food places were surprisingly quiet except the Pizza place in the station, the curry house and the Royal Oak hotel. There also didn't seem to be any sign of "nightlife" to speak of, even on Friday night (maybe people are too tired after outdoor activities?). Some establishments only opened Friday and Saturday nights. Its a good base for the area being at the junction of two main road routes. You can also walk straight out of the village with several way marked routes of varying difficulty, or just doing your own map reading. You can easily spend a day browsing the shops and cafes and taking in the pretty Pont-y-Pair and river rapids. However by day two, you will probably be ready to explore further.

Lovely scenery and breath taking water falls.

Lovely scenery and breath taking water falls. Also such quaint little shops with enough small pubs for a bite to eat. Also close to Zipworld where you can fly through the clouds at high speed or go zip through the forest at speed.

Betws y Coed is a pretty little place on the river which seems to attract many visitors during the day but they seem to disappear in the evenings so there’s very little atmosphere at night which is a shame.

Betws-y-cooed is the perfect place to explore all major parts of North Wales. It definitely is a hikers paradise. It is centrally located with just around 30 - 40 mins travel by public transport to most hikes and tourist spots, Snowdon, Llanberis, Conwy, Llandudno, Zip World forest coaster, Great Orme tramway. Quaint town and pretty in summer. Even if you want a relaxing holiday, you can taken in the scenaries this village has to over. River walks and picnics with an excellent local pizzeria and pub.

Room very clean, comfortable, warm. Tea and coffee facilities great in room. Staff in reception very friendly and efficient. Brilliant that they take dogs and the dog friendly rooms are very nice. Have stayed in other dog friendly hotels and sometimes feel they put you in the worst rooms.
