Location was amazing along a canal with a lovely walk alongside the Inn where several houseboats were moored. There is a lovely outdoor beer garden which is enclosed so my children had a great time playing here while we ate outside in the stunning summer sun. The room was spacious and comfortable. The food was exceptional and staff were very helpful

Love the Bohemian flair of the rooms, gardens, and lounge! The "cottage" was tucked away in a corner on the ground floor so it was very quiet. The furnishings were terrific, and I particularly enjoyed the large claw foot bathtub in the room, although some may be put off by the location right in the bedroom (there is a wonderful shower in the private bathroom if privacy is a concern). Lovely to soak after a long flight from the US and train ride from London! The staff graciously allowed us to stow our luggage after checkout so we could wander about unencumbered. They also assisted with getting luggage down the stairs at the entrance.

FAQs about hotels in Chester

A Walk Through History

Featuring half-timbered buildings, almost complete city walls and a wealth of Roman heritage, beautiful Chester sits by the border with Wales.

The southernmost gate of the walls overlooks the River Dee, and the road leading north is one of 4 in the city to follow the original Roman roads. To the east, the Roman Gardens include a reconstructed underfloor heating system.

Nearby Grosvenor Park has remains of a stone Roman amphitheatre, thought to have been built on the world’s largest wooden amphitheatre at the time. Over the river in the suburb of Handbridge is a 2nd-century shrine to Minerva, and an informative display in the Grosvenor Museum provides the background to all this heritage.

In the west is Chester Racecourse and nearby are the medieval castle remains. More medieval buildings line the cobbled city centre streets. Some of these are The Rows, black-and-white timbered buildings housing 2 levels of shops. Other shopping options are the indoor market by the cathedral, and the Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village in Ellesmere Port to the north. The road out there passes Chester Zoo, one of the UK’s best zoos.

Booking.com’s range of Chester accommodation includes hotels with swimming pools, guest houses by the train station and B&Bs with parking near Chester Airport.

I feel in the full day I spent there I saw all I wanted to of the city - I walked the 2 miles of the city walls, spent time in the Cathedral, went on a river boat trip, marvelled at the architecture and ate at a wonderful Turkish restaurant in the evening. Friendly, compact town, easy to get round on foot - quite flat, so ok for all abilities (though the city walls involves steps in places)

The hotel in all was fabulous.

The hotel in all was fabulous. Unfortunately the use of spa and pool facilities was poor and miss lead as they wouldn’t allow any one under the age of 16 to use. So it’s not a good idea to bring kids with you. That’s the only main concern everything else was perfect

Lots of lovely cafes and restaurants. My son was competing in the Chester Marathon so went for the weekend to watch him . Also our Grandsons plus daughter in law were there . Saint Peters church/ fantastic opened the church on Sunday and the kids got to make supporting posters to take away to hold up around the route also free cake and drinks if you wanted to donate then you could which we did as we where welcomed in also with the dog . Easy to walk around the city with lots of information displayed. We will be back

Chester is full of history, beautiful buildings plenty of places to sit and relax and take in the atmosphere. The city is compact but never seems over crowded. There are plenty of shops and cafes. The river is not too far away and is well worth a visit and is close to the beautiful park. The city feels safe and is very clean and is very easy to get to via mersey rail from Liverpool ,hence reducing vehicle use.

You know how people are always saying, "You should go to this place or that city"? Why had no one ever said to me, "You should go to Chester"??!!?! It's absolutely delightful! Such a pretty little town and there's something for everyone: history, entertainment, activities, lovely parks and walks along the river. Had the best meal I've ever eaten in my life there too - at the tapas bar called Porta. OMG! Who knew even basic carrots could be made so delicious? The city walls make it really easy to walk around the town too. You should go to Chester!

The Mill Hotel is a large establishment located just a few minutes walk from Chester city centre. Unusually for a city centre hotel it has a substantial car park. Our room was large and clean. There was a sofa and the bed was comfortable. With one exception, the staff were enormously friendly and helpful. Breakfast was buffet style and most efficiently organised. We did not use the restaurant, but the bar food was ok. The selection of beers and wines available was very good.

The hotel was located right next to Chester Race Course which we were visiting. It was clean and tidy and exceptionally quiet given it's location next to a busy road. A very good car park under the hotel, which was very reasonably priced, given that we were staying in the city centre.
