The location is perfect for a comfortable stay whilst exploring Dartmoor. We found the rooms very comfortable & the food excellent, great choice of beers, wines etc & the menu was varied. All the staff we met were helpful, friendly & very efficient, even when rushed off their feet. We have stayed previously & will not hesitate to stay again. Thoroughly recommend. Special thanks to Leanne for her cheery nature & wonderful service.

The staff were very helpful and lovely to us, we would have stayed longer but the weather was appalling 09/12/25 so could not walk in the garden the room was good, bed comfortable. Love the quietness at this time of year, which is what we wanted. Was a bit disappointed with the afternoon tea. It’s better in the summer menu with its verity of food choices. So will come back letter in the new year. We have recommended it to others.

Chagford is a gorgeous friendly little place with plenty of lovely coffee shops, eateries and shops too. Lovely places to walk too. Our favourite breakfast place was the Birdcage cafe and our favourite pubs for food of an evening were the three crowns and th Ring o Bells.

The roads into the village are small and tight and it isn't the sort of village you will drive past, you have to go out of your way to come here and to be honest it shows. If any of you have ever watched the League of Gentlemen "this is a local shop for local people, there is nothing for you here" there is that sort of vibe throughout the village. It looks stunning, nice historic buildings, town square but the moment you enter the village you feel like an outsider, going into local farm shops and people just stare, talk to you without making eye contact it is all very strange. Ok firstly if you want to eat food DO NOT go to the Chagford Inn, the prices are disgusting for what they actually bring you, £20 for a burger which literally consisted of a burger smaller than a standard Mcdonalds cheese burger, 10-12 fries and leaf salad, my partner had Pate for starter which cost £10 and the entire starter was finished with one tablespoon, cannot comment on other places. It seems very much like the village is run on rules and if your not from the village they will make you feel like that an outsider, was not very welcoming place. Beehive Farm shop is brilliant, all homemade breads, pasties, food it was very nice and would recommend this rather than going to the Spar.

If you want to combine a culinary experience with peace and quiet in an English country setting, Gidleigh Park should be on your list of destinations. Chagford is a beautiful unspoiled town on the edge of Dartmoor with four pubs. I would recommend the Ring O Bells, who's signature pies are probably the best I have ever had in an public house. Castle Drogo is a stunning NT treasure and a must visit. The roads are very narrow so you will need a steady nerve when travelling around.

The staff were friendly and the location in the middle of Chagford was good. We ate in the restaurant one evening and the good was delicious. Breakfast had a great choice and was well cooked. It was disappointing that, as we booked breakfast both days for 9am, they had run out of pastries and there was no sign of the charcuterie listed on the menu.

This is our fifth stay here. It is good value, friendly and well located on the edge of Dartmoor. The food is good, especially the scones if you have a cream tea. It’s a great dog friendly hotel.
