Hanmer is a tiny village lost in time; it has a large mere for wild swimming and woodland walk; the handsome ancient church is open daily and the view down its churchyard towards the Mere is a delight. If visiting after dark, take a torch as there is limited street lighting which all adds to the charm. We ate in the Hanmer Arms for breakfasts and evening meal, both using quality products and well prepared. I felt very well looked after during my stay, they seemed to have a genuine concern in making my stay comfortable. Just as an example, as I am not an early riser on holiday I usually just skip breakfast - this is the first time that I wake up and find my breakfast outside my room, and without even having asked for it. That's even more remarkable considering that this is an establishment run by a hard working family with (very nice) kids and not a plush fancy hotel with loads of staff :)Guest review byMassimoUnited Kingdom
