Iain and Jack were the absolute stars of One Drake Road, and everything was extraordinary, so that’s saying a lot. They are jovial and warm, welcoming and familiar and they gave us the best advice for every facet of our stay. They are the Devon and Cornwall tour guides that we didn’t expect, but certainly needed and we are SO grateful. Every time we would leave or arrive, the boys would pop their heads out of the front door to make sure we were sorted. This is the kind of service you could only expect from the best 5 star hotels. The property was also INCREDIBLE. We didn’t want to leave. It was clean and comfortable and homely, the boys have done an exceptional job on the design. It feels like home, but better decorated. The toiletries were out of this world. I didn’t need to wash my hair, but I did, because smelling like geranium felt like an opportunity I shouldn’t miss out on. We cannot wait to come back. The Cornish Arms is a real treasure! This is a traditional fine dining pub-hotel combination, with both components fulfilling the highest standards. The rooms are beautifully appointed and very quiet (we couldn't heat the pub at all); ours had a hedgehog theme. Spent a peaceful and relaxing night in the very comfy bed. All the amenities are brand-new but well selected to reflect the historical character; nice decoration details. Check-in was smooth at the pub bar doubling as reception. Without reservation, we got a table in the restaurant downstairs, and the food was simply stunning, with local specialties reinterpreted by a splendid chef. The hotel is in the middle of the market town of Tavistock (with parking in back), just minutes away from a beautiful mountain view of Dartmoor (check out the sunset). Picked up lots of souvenirs in the local deli (around the corner) and farmers' market, all within walking distance.

Linda and Aidan were the consumate hosts - welcoming and friendly, and very, very flexible and helpful. They don't serve evening meals, but provided some great advice on places to eat locally; there are places within easy walking distance. The breakfast is definitely one of the best hotel breakfasts we have had - really nice locally sourced produce cooked to absolute perfection. We would support Aidan's claim to the best scrambled eggs in the world! We were house hunting and were so impressed with our first stay we went back when we returned to the area the following week. They even accommodated us for a second night after we arrived when we wanted to stay in the area for an extra day 'on spec'. We would definitely recommend and will certainly stay again next time we are in the area.
