St Helier is a great base for exploring Jersey by bus (as we did). The town itself is not pretty but the main bus station means you can get around the island really easily (and more environmentally friendly than hiring a car). The museum is really excellent and gave us a fantastic overview of the history, geography and stories of Jersey. We spent a week going around the coast by bus and walking, often finding lovely secluded beaches. We are in our 60s but managed the walks fairly easily. Lots of ups and downs, so you do need good walking boots and a certain level of fitness. Used the public bus service to get around sightseeing.
Used the public bus service to get around sightseeing. We visited St Brelade's, St Aubin, the shops at Red Houses and Jersey Pearl. Also took a daytrip by sea to Guernsey (this was booked before we left home) the trip was terminated before the return sailing due to high winds/rough weather but the tour of the island was excellent and the tour company arranged and paid for flights back to Jersey. Beautiful, clean and well maintained.
Beautiful, clean and well maintained. Beautiful beaches at St Brelade and family friendly. Beaches to the west of the island were less rocky and more sandy. Boxes of beach toys left out for children to borrow in several places. Lots of castles, forts, little harbours, gardens, coastal walks and cycle tracks. We also enjoyed a walk along the promenade after dinner in the evening. Also walking distance into the town centre with shops, cafes and restaurants.the room was a good size but a few steps to negotiate. Breakfast was buffet style with cooked and cold options. Fruit, cereals, yoghurts with plenty of hot and cold drink options. Evening meal was also very good, the roast beef cooked to perfection.
