the last time I stayed there was in 1951, 2 weeks before I left to live in Australia. I was a 16 year old. Amazingly, on this occasion I was given the same room! So lots of fond memories.

We had to reschedule many of our activities to the last day of the trip due to bad weather, and to help us out, the owner gave us a very generous late check out time. The staffs responded to our request quickly. Ordering food was also quick.

The host was very kind and very friendly. She greeted us with whisky when we arrived, and told us the story of Gordon House. She also gave us a good recommendation for dinner (as she doesn't provide it herself on weekdays anymore). The room was clean, and everything was as described. The building is old, so don't expect fancy modern interiors, but everything is clean and the owners constantly work on improving it. And I must mention that the full Scottish breakfast was very good.

International dark sky park and local ski centre. Didn’t have enough time to visit other local attractions like the castle ruins, Jacobite battle sites etc. could spend weeks up here if you’re outdoor people!

Lovely peaceful, small village, good for walking locally and easy drive to other towns and areas for hiking, cycling, as well as whisky distilleries, other sightseeing, shopping and restaurants. Not the place to go if you want vibrant nightlife.

An absolutely great place to get away from the monotony of everyday life The countryside around provides plenty of peaceful walks, skiing is also available at the nearby Lecht Ski Centre, who manage to provide skiing even when there is very little snow about ! The Richmond Arms Hotel is the place to stay. Provides a great base with fantastic ownership, service, food and drink.

Even at the height of summer, be prepared with your layered wind and waterproofs. As long as you have the correct clothing, the fine views to the Cairngorms and village walks can be enjoyed fully. There is plenty of bird life to view. The gift shop and clock restaurant are well appointed and worth patronising.

    Friendly village.

Friendly village. Lovely cafes and a wonderful gift shop Spendrift. I did some Christmas shopping there and it was only May!. Best bacon rolls ever at the cafe across the main road from the house. We ate out at the Richmond hotel which is dog friendly and we also had an excellent fish supper from a van which comes on a Tuesday late afternoon. There are lots of lovely walks around the village itself as well as others in the surrounding area which is beautiful . Ideal spot for a relaxing holiday.

Clearly, the hotel is going through a period of renovation after years of neglect by previous owners, however they’re doing a grand job and by the look of the rooms they’ve already renovated, it’s going to be great when they’ve finished. They looked after me very well, and have no complaints. Found myself very unwell, and they took the effort to move me to another room where it was felt I’d be more comfortable

The house is very well located, very close to the central square of Tomintoul, with its hotels, brilliant restaurant (the Clockhouse), village store and tourist office. Our family of eight found the house very spacious and comfortable. We also enjoyed the nearby scenic walks on the Glenlivet Estate.
