Excelent. The location, the ambiance, the staff . One real gem. All the little details were there. Outside was raining? The gentelman at the door offers you an umbrella. Our fridge was not working. They changed it at our first word. And the smile, oh, the smile of a staff that is proud of their hotel and their town. You feel really welcome.

Very clean and comfortable accommodation. The bathroom was large and spa like. The owners were friendly and made us feel really welcome. Additional touches of chocolates and port in our room were a nice gesture. Dinner was delicious. This place is a gem and well worth A+!

We had a wonderful stay at Sixteen B. The apartment was spotlessly clean, cosy, and comfortable, with everything we needed for our stay. It’s located in a peaceful village but still within close proximity to York city centre, making it ideal for both relaxing and exploring. Olga was an excellent host — very attentive and responsive, regularly checking in to make sure everything was okay and if we needed any top-ups. We felt well looked after. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend Sixteen B to others. Thank you, Olga, for a great stay.

FAQs about hotels in York

England Through the Ages

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once gave access to the city.

Walk the walls for wonderful views of the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.

A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even try out archaeology for yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.

Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around a 30-minute drive away, Castle Howard is a stately home on an over 1,000-acre estate.

Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there's a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses in York and on the outskirts available on Booking.com.

Visitng York during Christmas time is a joy.

Visitng York during Christmas time is a joy. Shambles street takes you into a different time period with shops still maintaining the original outlook. Lot of different experiences in every shop. York Chocolate Story tour was a good experience for the whole family. I have been to York Dungeon before and they have changed the setup, so it seems to be less horror. It is good for people who like to listen to horror stories.

York is a charming city with a surprising amount of things to do, my partner and I wanted to see York Minster, The Shambles and the city wall within a day and got way more than we bargained for. The city of York has such rich history and beautiful buildings you’ll find yourself getting lost for the pleasure of it and it’s a great city to walk in, from enchanted cobbled streets to picturesque parks nestled in the heart of the city everything feels within walking distance and York Minster provides a stunning backdrop and bell-toll that makes it hard to get lost no matter where you are, there’s tonnes of food options with plenty of delightful little pubs and lovely staff/locals who were more than happy to help and far more options for shopping than we anticipated. We will definitely be coming back here one day to checkout the Jorvik Viking Centre, Museums and to take in the awe inspiring view from the city walls again.

We stayed in York for our honeymoon during the Christmas...

We stayed in York for our honeymoon during the Christmas markets, and it was absolutely fantastic. The city feels magical at that time of year – the historic streets, festive lights, and the atmosphere around the markets made it feel really special and memorable. There are so many great places to eat and drink, from cosy pubs to excellent restaurants, and everywhere we went the food and service were spot on. York is very walkable, full of character, and perfect for taking things at a relaxed pace while still having plenty to see and do. We also took advantage of a couple of day trips booked through GetYourGuide, which were well organised and a great way to explore beyond the city without any hassle. Overall, York was the perfect honeymoon destination – romantic, historic, festive, and full of great experiences. We couldn’t have chosen a better place and would absolutely love to return, especially at Christmas.

Beautiful city with so many things to see and do.

Beautiful city with so many things to see and do. It is so easy to get around on foot. Loved the variety of independent shops as well as usual retailers. Plenty of places to eat and drink for all budgets. The Christmas market was amazing. We intend to visit again as there was so much we didn’t do. We ate during the day in the Gold cafe as well as other places, but this little place was so nice and friendly with a great chef who produced beautiful food.

Very nice hotel with parking within easy walking distance of the city centre. Our room was small but perfectly adequate for two people. It was well decorated, very clean and comfortable. The en-suite was modern and well appointed with a large powerful walk-in shower. Hotel staff were friendly and allowed us to use the car park prior to check-in and also for a few hours after check-out. This saved us extra parking costs in York and was much appreciated.

Didn’t have breakfast as 50.00 for 2 seemed a little excessive and had a nice breakfast close to hotel for half the price. The staff were very friendly professional and helpful particular the door men who helped with parking. The room was huge for a city centre hotel and very comfortable with small details appreciated like Milton brown toiletries and Yorkshire shortbread fab bathroom too
