Pretty place, but be aware you can't swim in the lake.
Pretty place, but be aware you can't swim in the lake. Things to do - Boat trip around the lake and the caves are lovely and so was walking around the town and seeing the old buildings. The drive around the lake was wonderful and the trees formed a canopy so also very cool. You can also walk the whole route but might take a couple of hours and no designated pavement. We climbed the mountain path behind the monastery, but be warned it is steep and hard work in places, but the views are amazing. However, if you want the same views, drive up the road to the hospital and keep going as when I arrived after my 45 minute climb I can upon the road and it will take you to the peak (I think). Parts of the town are quite hilly and walking shoes or trainers needed in these parts, but you can probably avoid these areas if you wanted to.Guest review byPaulaUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Kastoria on the lake is very scenic.
Kastoria on the lake is very scenic. If you want to see a different view of Greeece away from the intensity of Athens I would recommend visiting Kastoria. We also took the opportunity to visit Korce, Albania which we thoroughly enjoyed.Guest review byPaulUnited States - 10.0

It has been some 6-7 years from my last visit at kastoria...
It has been some 6-7 years from my last visit at kastoria where I visited the area around the city (nymphaion, prespes etc) but i neglected the city per se this time i focused there and i discovered little gems such as the byzantine museum, the folklore museum aprt from the obvious (visiting the wonderful renovated local architecture mansions, the byzantine churches such as mavriotissa or koumpelidiki) and the captivating old Doltso quarter) still in aweGuest review byNIKOLAOSGreece - 8.0

Walking around the lake is a must and going to the Palia Poli restaurant as well - it's in the old town near the lake and there wasn't anything we ordered that we didn't love. There are parking spaces near the lake and I would love to visit again.Guest review byMonaBulgaria

It was just like living in an old mansion house (which of course, it is!!). The staff were interesting to talk to, and friendly. The location is good, an easy walk around the lakeside to the new part of town.
