Osijek was once the second city in Croatia and still has evidence of that. The collection of Secessionist buildings on Europska Ave is outstanding on a European scale and it is a disgrace that this hasn't been recognised by the EU. The historic complete military township of Tvrda is also a must visit place. The surrounding Baranje area provides tastes of a country far different to Dalmatia which is what most visitors to Croatia only experience.
