I lived in Tiruchirappalli for about four years.
I lived in Tiruchirappalli for about four years. It is one of the important tourist places not only in Tamil Nadu but in the entire South India. It is well connected by Train (two stations), bus facilities, and an airport. Sri Rangam, Thiruvanai koil, Samayapuram, Uchi Pillaiyar koil are all famous temples. Over a thousand-year-old Kalanai (stone dam) built by Karikaal Cholan is still operational. Mukkombu is another place worth visiting. This review is only about Srirangam. Not aware of Tiruchirapalli. Lord Ranganatha's temple is marvelous. To have Vishwaroopa Darshanam, one should book online in advance. There are a lot of other 'Sannidhi's' within the main temple area. Did not visit other Shaivite temples. There is a reasonable hotel "Madapalli" wherein one can get a good breakfast consisting of idli, Vada, Dosa etc and also a nice south indian lunch. Not aware of any hotels serving North Indian or European cuisine. We had our own transportation. Using google one can travel all over. The roads are narrow but good. A must see place in India especially the Rockfort temple and the ancient Ranganatha Swamy temple.
