As a family with tweens we did not enjoy Tulum & will not be back. The kids were not allowed many places/ restaurants. Algea covered the beach (it was july), the restaurants were priced higher than where we live but the quality of the food was poor. If you are a family I would skip and go elsewhere. Tulum is a city you'd have to explore more, especially with car access which we didn't have. Things could get expensive fast with the transportation, souvenir shops, and cafes that cater to tourists. I spent $35 USD on brunch, which wasn't a lot or filling at all. Yet you turn the corner, and a birria taqueria fills you up for only $16 USD. Tulum south is good, friendly and helpful people . It didn’t seem right to pay to visit paradise beech. No clear guidelines to visit beeches via resorts. So much tourism and everywhere you want to go you have to pay, inluding beach access. Public beaches you have to pay in the entrance (around 45 MXD) plus if you go with a motorbike another 100MXD to park. Do not rent a car, it is impossible to drive over. The street are totally in bad conditions also super narrow. Scooter or bikes are the only option.
