We loved our stay in the ice hotel. This year's theme was the greek pantheon and the sculptures were gorgeous. We stayed in a suit, which is well worth the upgrade. We did many hikes in the area and enjoyed our time here immensely. The staff were helpful and friendly, the food was exceptional, and both the main hotel and the ice hotel are stunning. The staff even let us know when northern lights were out! Thank you all for such a memorable stay.

The hotel is in an good location. Close to the city center, restaurants, and shops. Parking is available at the hotel, and payment is easy using EasyPark. A simply wonderful stay here. Rooms are beautifully designed and luxurious. The hotel itself, stylish, classy and comfortable. Both restaurants are wonderful and offer simply outstanding food, with incredible local produce. The tours we undertook (dog sledding, reindeer/Sami experience) were great fun and so informative. Cannot recommend this hotel enough for those wanting a luxurious break in the stunning arctic countryside. And we saw the Northern Lights! Special mention to Petros on the front desk who was as welcoming, helpful and informative as any front of house person I have ever encountered - even coming to alert us about the N Lights! A wonderful ambassador for this outstanding resort hotel.

We chose Alta, the City of Northern Lights, to "Hunt the Aurora Borealis". We were NOT disappointed. It was a magical experience. Lots of beautiful northern lights shows. We did a number of activities: night time horse drawn sleigh ride and dinner; king crab fishing experience; tour of the Ice Hotel at Sorrisniva; dog sled ride at Holmen Husky. We stayed at a canvas dome in GLOD, with the most amazing guide to see the Northern Lights. We stayed in a forest suite at Holmen Husky. The place was incredible and the way they treat the dogs will completely change your thoughts on the sport of dog sledding. They were the sweetest and happiest dogs I've ever seen. We stayed at Flatmoen Natur Lodge, which is a family owned and ran farm. Each lodge has their own private, outdoor jacuzzi so you can sit outside while the snow is falling or hope to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Lovely cute place which is not too commercial.

Lovely cute place which is not too commercial. Great place to do a northern light run, Go for a smaller tour size of 7-8 ppl instead of 50 sized. First its very safe even if you are going solo and also you have a more personal discussion with the group and also much more personalized attention to see the stars and the northern lights.

I came for the museums and some quiet relaxation, and got plenty of that! Lovely town with good food and lovely people. The weather in June was grand... nice during the day, cooler at night. A fan was all I needed to be cool enough to sleep. The local taxi company got me around town with ease, though their is a bus I never tried out. I sadly do not speak any Norwegian, and I was able to get around with ease.

Alta is a town that is difficult to reach in winter, so it is good to make reservations as late as possible to get a refund without penalty. Accommodation owners and tour operators will take your money and not refund you even if you prove that you didn't arrive in Alta due to weather (cancelled planes or planes that were unable to land).

Alta is beautiful!!! Planning our next trip already. We went to Holmen Husky Lodge and Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel, we would go here again. Saw the northern lights and the Husky race Finnmarksløpet - great experience

Be sure to p pick the right time of year.

Be sure to p pick the right time of year. The summer season is very short and several museums and other places close at the end of August. September we found to be relatively fine as well as October. We found that some places were closed whether this was because of the end of season or still related to Covid is/was uncertain. Alta Museum and its rock drawings and other Sami history is very interesting and informative. The Northern Lights (Nordlys) Cathedral stands dominant in the centre of town and well worth a visit. Obviously at this particular tie of year the Northern Lights are always a possibility.

Wonderful hotel. We even had a view of the northern lights cathedral from our room. Room was huge and the bed was ine if the mist comfortable I have stayed in. Loved the wall paper with the birds. Breakfast was amazing with lots of choices. Very helpful staff.

The reception staff were helpful. The room was clean and comfy. The buffet breakfast was the most varied we'd ever had. Tasty, too. The breakfast area is a bit undersized for the number of guests the hotel can accommodate so there may be queues.
