Coromandel was the nicest place we visited on the Coromandel Peninsula. It is a charming and unspoiled historic town. There are some good restaurants there too. We recommend the Star and Garter Hotel and the Turkish restaurant was great.Guest review byJanetAustralia - 10.0

You need to be invested in water sports, boating or fishing...
You need to be invested in water sports, boating or fishing to really get the best out of this town. Long Bay is a good spot for swimming, but I would recommend only at high tide. We went at low tide and walked over 200 metres from shore and the water was still only thigh high. Would be great for younger kids as there is little to no wave action. Kauri forest walk was great, and the walk around Long Bay shoreline was scenic. Weather was showery, but very humid, odd for Mid February. Shop prices were on a par with Wellington which surprised me considering we could not get an Americano coffee anywhere!! The 4 Square is a gold mine - everything we needed we got there. We only stayed one night on our way from Auckland to Rotorua. This was the perfect stop over as the roundtrip on 25 road brings you to beautiful places on Coromandel Peninsula. We had fresh mussels in town at pepper tree which were delicious. Not sure if we would recommend for a longer stay. Not that much to do.Guest review byPeterGermany

Only one point lost because the lovely shepherd's hut was booked for the final night and we had to stay in our van. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and really helpful.
