The Portage was a lovely place to stay, the views were amazing and the staff extremely helpful. We were dissapointed about only 1 restaurant being open, and therefore not a large selection to choose from. We would recommend asking in advance, if they can make up a sharing platter, as this is not on the menu, and when we asked, they mentioned we should have ordered in advance. The beautiful view from the deck totally lends itself to drinking and grazing on a delicious platter. The kids loved the kayaks and paddle boards. We would recommend booking a transfer and taking a picnic to a secluded beach - we had a wonderful time.Guest review byTravellers05New Zealand

We got upgraded to the Tui room, which had a lovely view of the sound. The bed was very comfy and the room had everything you need for a night stay. We had dinner at the restaurant, which was great and the staff were friendly. We got a lift to the beginning of the track, which saved 700m of uphill walk on the road.Guest review byDanielDenmark

The room I ended up staying in had a balcony and was very cosy, the location was beautiful, and the staff were great. Even without them getting my Kindle back to me, I'd have rated them a 10.
