Liked its central quieter location within easy distance of Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach, Cooks Beach and Whitianga to which we did day trips. Eatery's were adequate, enjoyed the Gemstore and browsing other shops, peple friendly. On the way there and back enjoyed a drive out to Bowentown, visiting Athenree Hot Pools at the Campsite, and the mining Museum in Waihi was enjoyed by our 8 and 13 year old grandies.Guest review byChristineNew Zealand - 10.0

We love kayaking in the estuary and up Pepe Stream, boogie boarding in the ocean, and coffees at the cafes. We always visit Kaore Bay (Sailors Grave) up the road as you have trees to sit under, the surf beach and the estuary for kids to play in all in the one spot. There are plenty of bushwalking tracks if that is your thing, and the locals are all really friendly. Tairua is an ideal destination for families.Guest review byTaniaNew Zealand - 10.0

It is a beautiful coastal town with plenty of eating places...
It is a beautiful coastal town with plenty of eating places and little food bars tucked into corners providing a quaint experience. There is a four square but it closes early. Lovely laid-back and friendly little town in fantastic location and with great amenities. It’s got everything you need - shops, choice of places to eat and drink, lovely estuary with beaches for swimming when tide is in, and a great ocean surfing beach. Got a great little art gallery well worth a visit, and very helpful tourist info next door to library. Boat trips, including to Cathedral Cove direct from town - and lots of great beaches and other places visit just a short drive away. Loved the relaxed atmosphere.
Loved the relaxed atmosphere. My father in law(1902-1997) used to say that Tairua never knew the Depression was on, meaning life went on as usual, plenty of seafood to eat etc. it had the same feel today.Guest review byDeanNew Zealand

They were friendly, warm and always available without being intrusive. The studio set up is great, everything you need and exclusive use of the back garden. The position is also excellent, right on the shore line with easy access to the village centre, ferry to Pauanui, and short bike ride to Taurua ocean beach. Such a pretty house with everything you could wish for included...and more! Lots of information from our hostess Linda...unfortunately we were out and missed meeting up with her...but we followed her instructions and had no problem finding the house and gaining access. Finding the delicious homemade muffins was a very welcome surprise! Everything was super clean and comfortable. We were just sorry we weren't staying longer!
