FAQs about hotels in Gdańsk

Charming Architecture And a Breath of History

Called the Amber Capital of the World, Gdańsk is the major shipping seaport and the most beautiful city along the Polish Baltic coast. It has everything from fascinating history and great architecture to a friendly atmosphere!

Also known as Danzig due to its complex past with periods of Polish, German and self-rule, the city is part of the Tricity urban area together with the port city of Gdynia and the popular spa town Sopot. It’s also a birthplace of the world-famous Solidarity movement, which helped to bring down Communist rule in Poland, initiating the end of the Cold War era.

Its charming buildings were rebuilt in a historical style after the city's near-complete destruction during World War II. You can admire the colorful townhouses of the Old Town by boat on the Motlawa River or by strolling down the popular Long Street and Long Market.

While in Gdańsk, make sure you visit the 15th-century St. Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, and make a wish at the Neptune Fountain, the city’s patron. While in town, try the legendary local Goldwasser liqueur with 22 karat gold flakes!

Whether you reach Gdańsk by train or plane, Booking.com has a variety of accommodations near the Lech Walesa Airport, the picturesque Old Town or the general city center.

Around the old town there are all the services you could need for a three-night trip: good restaurants, bakeries, cafes, drinking places and shops. The Motlawa River is wonderful in the morning, afternoon and evening to walk around without rushing and stop for breakfast, coffee, a drink, lunch or dinner. I recommend making a table reservation for evening meals at popular places.

Very walkable city with plenty to see and many lovely cafes, restaurants and bars to rest and enjoy. Gdansk felt very safe and friendly meaning I felt very welcome as a tourist. The main canal is a highlight with boats and many shops and places to eat, drink and people watch. Amazing things to do including the WWII museum which was so well done, beautiful cathedrals with great views, and as my trip was in December - the fabulous Christmas markets. An ideal short city break and very affordable.

For me, it was ok to visit Gdansk for 1 time. I do not think I would travel there again since I have many places to visit in my list. The food and tap beers are good. But the old town is not genuinely old since 90% percent of the city dismantled in WWII. I met the city in December and the Christmas market food was a nice experince

A wonderful destination for a Christmas break.

A wonderful destination for a Christmas break. Atmospheric Christmas market and Old Town is delightfully restored after virtual obliteration in 1945. Many restaurants. Excellent WWII museum, modern and presented with both a global and Polish perspective. Modern and glitzy shopping centres too. Modern airport a 25 minutes taxi ride. Reasonably priced compared to UK.

We went for a last minute visit to the Christmas markets, arriving Sunday morning and leaving late Monday afternoon, so just one night. This was long enough to visit the markets, the main shopping centre and also walk up the Bell Tower (409 steps to the top) to see the view over the city plus time to stroll several other areas of interest. Transport from the airport was easy by bus and the walk to the hotel was flat, so ideal if you don't want steep hills.

There's a tiny museum called Museum of DejaVu, it's just...

There's a tiny museum called Museum of DejaVu, it's just outside Old Town centre. A place full of illusions. Although small, it's perfectly formed and well worth the detour. You can currently find it on 18 Dlugie Ogrody (that's the address). It does look like it's an old corner shop converted to a mini museum, but don't be fooled, if you like the film The Illusionist - then GO, you won't regret it. Look out for local cafe / bar places that are called Bar Mleczny - like the one I found on Stagiewna street. The staff rarely speak English, the menu is all in Polish - but these are the places where you get proper Polish food, and often at 30% less or more than your tourist restaurant spots. Don't be put off by the look or lack of English. Just point and eat, you won't be disappointed. These places cater to local workers who want a home-cooked meal whilst on the job. When visiting the Amber museum, go and play in the 'test' exhibits first - they're just to the right of reception desk, where you can test your knowledge of Amber and spot the real one among a host of fake ones. It's part of the overall museum, and lots of people skip this little part, but it's actually really fun. I managed to get 2 out of 14 correct. Oops. Take a walk on the less walked streets. Gdansk architecture is beautiful, and there's so much more to see when you step away from the central tourist route. There's more to Gdansk than just winter Christmas market. Go in the summer, visit the lake country, and visit Malbork - the largest Tutonic Knights castle in Europe. The largest red-brick castle anywhere.

Good location, easy access to main ring road, few minutes from city centre. Flat was clean, dishes/cutlery was placed neatly and wiped clean after washing. Great thing was the underground parking with reserved space. Few grocery shops around, with bakery in the same building. Best thing - the price, fairly cheap and well worth the money.

Very clean, quiet and orderly. Facilities are kept top notch and people working there are overly welcoming. Every hotel owner (especially those with 4 or 5 star ratings) should visit and see how a 3 star hotel beats them. By far one of the best if not the best hotel I have been to so far.
