Ruhondo island retreat was fantastic - both in terms of natural beauty and as a gateway to many local community experiences around lake Ruhondo. Jean was amazing and led us on a hike and community visit - he shared awesome info about the area where he was born. The tents were awesome - with great hot water showers. The food was also excellent, the chef Elias did a great job! I would recommend visiting lake Ruhondo , and the retreat, as an alternative to lake Kivu.

William the manager speaks english and french. He is very reactive and helpful. The food was nice but above the place whre the lodge stands is perfect. On the lake shore with a sublime view on the volcanos for the sunset and the sunrise. A small piece of paradise. Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Makeri residence. Jackie's exceptional hospitality truly made our stay memorable. We admired the view and garden, the food was delicious, the room was comfortable. Jackie and her team consistently went above and beyond even taking us on tours of the area, washing our shoes after they got dirty from mud, going out to get items that we had requested. I cannot recommend this place more. A true hidden gem.

Blue moon Musanze is the sister hotel to the one at Kivu run by the same people. Lovely host Benjamin who went out of the way to help during the entirety of my stay, offering recommendations to eat in town, as well as ideas for things to do in the local area (e.g. hiking, nature, getting to Virunga Park, waterfalls etc) substantial breakfast, very large room with very excellent wifi and working area, also walkable distance to anywhere in the city and bus station - would recommend! Excellent value for money. I also met some nice people to talk to, locals and foreigners. They are still working on hot water but this wasn't a problem for me and they will heat you some water for bathing if you need just ask.
