What an incredible experience to visit such a place of immense historical and cultural value. I didn't know what to expect and was amazed at the wondrous sites and how spiritual it was. There's so much to see and I was pleasantly surprised that it's wasn't full of TikTok vloggers. Wear good walking shoes, bring lots of water and where possible avail of the heat reflecting umbrellas, provided free but should be returned afterwards. I learned so much and took away an experience I won't forget, which was down to a wonderful tour guide. We travel to experience other cultures and embrace what we can learn and this truly was a place of wonderment. Ayutthaya, like lots of places in SE Asia still hasn't fully recovered from Covid. The actual town isn't anything special. The Archaeological Park is astounding. The other fabulous area is the Riverside, which has numerous superb restaurants, for people who search them out. Far better prices and quality than Bangkok. Some specialities include enormous prawns as big as lobsters (750 g), soft shelled crabs (really unusual find), a wide range of fish, beautiful presentation. We got a free upgrade to a river view room where the view is stunning, looking at the pagoda on the opposite side of river. The hotel also provide free bicycles to roam around the nearby historical sites which is very convenient.
