Des Moines, Iowa might just be the cleanest city we’ve ever stepped foot in—like someone hit the whole place with Windex and a giant mop. We wandered through downtown, dodging packs of fit folks on their celebratory struts for the National Senior Olympics. The river looked like it had one too many and spilled over its dams, flooding the lower walkway. Zombie Burger was a certified hangout spot, and the sculpture garden? Des Moines is a great stop-over city.
Des Moines is a great stop-over city. If you're traveling and need to rest, stop in Des Moines for a few days. You will find great restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere. My favorite time to visit is in the summer. The Capitol Building and grounds are beautiful and historical (of course). Visitors are welcome inside. The Living History Farm and the Blank Park Zoo are fun outings with the kids. The Iowa State Fair in August cannot be beat! I did not engage with the community; however, from personal trips to Des Moines, I know that there are many family friendly things to do and to enjoy, especially in the non-winter seasons. Went to graduation at the Wells Fargo Arena. The view of the bridge on the Riverwalk on the Des Moines River and dam lit up at night was awesome. So was the state capitol in the background. Felt very safe there. Biaggii's Italian Restaurant was superb. Our waiter Alan was very efficient and had a great memory for our size table. This hotel is unfortunately one I would never use again.... My friends and I had planned a trip to see basketball we live in the UK. I made a mistake and put in the wrong Arena on Booking.com and this hotel came up. I booked two rooms and when we put in the zip code it was 1,000 miles away!!! I contacted booking.com literally 3 minutes after booking who contacted the hotel on my behalf and they refused to answer me or booking.com. I lost £270.00. Moral of the story they were in their rights to take the money but the fact they ignored both me and booking.com says a lot about the company greed. Enjoy spending my money..Guest review byShiela
