Located on the Cape of Good Hope, the city was founded in 1652 by a Dutch trading company as a way-station for ships travelling to the East Indies. With the settling process, all sorts of foreign plants were introduced, including the grapes in the famous Cape Winelands District, just outside Cape Town.
Cape Town’s history does have some darker periods, and some of its memorable places from this time deserve to be visited: Robben Island jail, the City Hall from which Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech, and the statues of the 4 South African Nobel Peace Prize winners on the V&A Waterfront.

A city with an European flair with excellent restaurants for all wallets and places to visit. Traveling in and around the city is very safe, affordable and easy with Uber. If you have clear weather, make sure you go up Table Mountain or hop on hop off bus. One goes through 4 Seasons in a day. Waterfront is fantastic. Cape Point beautiful. Feed the squirrels at the Company Gardens. They are so tame & gentle & eat right out your hand. Swim with Penquins at Boulder's or you can see plenty of them for nothing at Betty's Bay. Swim at The Strand. Wine farms all over & take a scenic drive up Chapman's Peak. Go on the big wheel. Go see whales at Hermanus. Scenic drives along the coastline.
