I lived in Pretoria for 5 years before moving to the UK. Pretoria has its own special uniqueness. I was pleasantly surprised to see how many of the smaller shopping centers had been upgraded and new shops added. However, the road works on Solomon Mahlangu Drive have been going on for years, I have been gone for 2 and a half years, and that particular road is still a nightmare. One word of warning to travellers is don't presume that because the traffic light is green you can go, way too many drivers think a red light means they can keep going. Saw a few nasty accidents while there. I found in general, SA has become ridiculously expensive, especially when eating out.
