Ryokan Asunaro: A Traditional Japanese Inn in Takayama. Nestled just a 6-minute walk from Takayama Station and the Nohi Bus Center, Ryokan Asunaro offers an authentic Japanese inn experience. We went as a group and we loved the ryokan. It was very spacious, everything was very clean, and it was conveniently located near the bus station, the train station, and the city center where most of the shopping takes place. The rooms were the most spacious we stayed in throughout Japan, and the staff were all very kind. I would definitely stay here again.

Just a 2-minute walk from Takayama Station, Oyado Koto No Yume offers Japanese-style rooms with a colourful touch. The hosts did a lot to accommodate us and gave a very good service. We received some tea on arrival and some nice gifts upon departure and during our stay we could taste local sake and plum wine.

Located just a 1-minute walk from popular Miyagawa Morning Market in the heart of Takayama, Sumiyoshi Ryokan offers homely Japanese-style accommodation in the historic townhouse building. What a sweet antique ryokan run by the loveliest people! We had here the best dinners in our whole trip!!! I cannot explain enough how delicious and exceptional the dinners were. Everyone is sweet and kind, and language doesn't feel like a barrier. We were welcomed with ceremonial tea and sweets. Location is perfect, right at the centre of everything, a 7 minute walk to the old city, 1 minute walk to the bridge with beautiful views, and there are plenty of eateries and cafes around. It was the only stay during our trip where we had shared bathrooms and toilet, but in the end we didn't mind it at all. The authentic experience of the onsen is brilliant, super relaxing. The place feels a bit like a live museum, or your Japanese grandma's house, so it's fun to look around. They also have a library of books to swap / leave. The owners helped us with finding things to do at Takayama. Honestly I couldn't recommend it enough, would definitely return!

Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. Amazing place! Food was great, staff were so nice 🙏🙏🙏 Best Value for money in Japan !

Situated at the heart of historic Takayama Old Town and just steps away from Takayama Jinya Morning Market, the traditional Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan offers personalised hospitality, hot spring baths... Staff are very kind, the service is great and we loved the authentic atmosphere.

Hida Takayama Hodakaso Yamano Iori is just a 3-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station and a 10-minute walk from Old Town and Takayama Jinya and Miyagawa Morning Market. Great location, wonderful interior and good price compared to the same level onsens in Takayama.

Awarded in 2014 with TripAdivsor’s Certificate of Excellence, Takayama Ouan features traditional Japanese designs and tatami (woven-straw) flooring throughout. Generally the hotel itself. The staff, private onsen, the food there and especially the comfortable room and bed. I had a very pleasant stay in Takayama and I wish I stayed more than just 2 nights. Also, the hotel is very close to the Nohi bus station where you can travel to Shirakawa-go and Kamikochi very easily.

Ideally located just a 2-minute walk from JR Takayama Station and Shirakawa-go Bus Terminal, this hotel boasts a natural hot spring bath where guests can unwind. Free Wi-Fi is available in all areas. The hotel had onsen with public baths. It was quite neat and clean. Excellent location near Jr station or bus station and a short 5-10 min walk across the river to the old takayama town with tourist things. The bathroom was small (but neat and clean) but we anyways instead used onsen to take bath. The breakfast was just decent and didn't live up to the good reviews we read on booking.com. Just outside the hotel, there is a small cafe run by an old Japanese lady. We loved our coffee and deserts there. Would recommend it if you crave good coffee after the breakfast buffet (it has machine coffee).
