Bonus points for the thoughtful little touches, like the handwritten notes and a great selection of drinks in the room.

The pools were lovely with plenty of sun loungers so you didn't need to reserve and complimentary towels. We were half board which gave us access to the buffet restaurant. The food here was great. There was an extensive choice with lots of high quality food cooked straight in front of you. The bar prices were also reasonable with a good range of cocktails and wines.

The stylish air-conditioned rooms at the Lamaro Hotel have satellite TV and a minibar. There is a safe and work desk, and the private bathroom comes with a bathrobe, slippers and hairdryer. Superior rooms also have a Nespresso coffee machine. I loved everything about Hotel Colon; the location, the rooms, the roof top bar, the atmosphere and the kind and considerate staff.

The luxurious Casa Fuster is a monument in itself, built in 1908 by the Modernist architect, Lluis Domènech i Montaner, and has the status of Speciality Monument. His work, including the hotel, is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The location is really good, but the best of all is the service.
