Everything was what we expected for our couple's escape. The bed was astonishingly comfortable and with a classy touch on it. The view of the bedroom was great, you could see the whole city centre. The bathroom and the hot tub were very clean and spacious. The breakfast was delicious and it could be described as a "melange" of flavours available. From cereal, to fruits and amazing breads available, you could even get your own chocolate milk with the materials they gave you. Also to not forget, that we were received with champagne and homemade cake made by the hotel staff. The staff members were very helpful and welcoming! To summarize 5 out of 5 stars in our humble opinion, can't wait to be back!

The room was great, very clean and had everything one needed despite its size. Since i was travelling alone it was perfect, right in the city center 2-10' away from every main attraction of coimbra. 3 ' away from the main square near the river also. I would like to share the experience i had with the host, since i was in coimbra during the power shut down. As soon as she could contact me, she went by the house and left some canned food, supplies and also homemade soup. It was a very touching move and i felt at home.

Location is absolutely gorgeous. Coimbra is split into two sides by the river, the busy side with the university and the quaint residential side, and this flat is on the residential side. The location is as scenic as it gets - but expect a VERY uphill walk to get there!

The hosts, Ana and Joanna were exceptional. Every morning they personally prepared breakfast and I was invited into the historic 1850's kitchen to dine. My room had a view of the river, and a large private bath. I was a five minute walk from the University, where I met my tour of the Joanina Library and the Cathedral. A stroll down the street (instead of up the street) and I was in the local square just inside the Almedina gate. There were numerous places to have wine, dinner or tapas. The college students were returning to Coimbra and it was fun to watch the "drinking scavenger hunt" that they were participating in, while I sipped wine. After a sweaty day-trip to Conimbriga, I returned to Alto Canto to pick up my luggage. Joanna let me shower in another room (I had already checked out) before I took off for Lisbon. This is a wonderful place to stay. I was in the smaller room, but I was able to see the larger room which was magnificent with a huge living room and paneled walls. Definitely worth the money!
