Miyajima Guesthouse Mikuniya is a traditional Japanese-style guesthouse located on Miyajima (Itsukushima). We booked two rooms for our family of four. We were pleasantly surprised how spacious they were, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. The host was incredibly kind, he suggested the best places to eat and buy locally produced lemon pastries, and when we were leaving, he brought his cat, Tiger, and waved goodbye to us. As we were on a three-day bike trip and only had our small backpacks with us, we loved the fact that everything was provided: shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, tooth brushes, toothpaste, mouth wash, etc. In each room there were even a couple of bottles of water and everything for making tea and coffee. In the common spaces there was a microwave, guidebooks, manga books, and a wall full of Toso Maps of the Shimanami Kaido trail. We will definitely book Bed&Cafe Onzo again next time we bike the Shimanami Kaido!

Senkoji Temple is 38 km from the hostel and MOU Onomichi City University Art Museum is 38 km away. The couple that owns the place is super nice and hospitable. The guesthouse is well located in the middle of the Shimanami Kaido just a little bit off the blue line. Everything is clean and well organized, the room was super comfortable which was much needed after a long day of cycling. Really recommend to stay here if you’re doing the cycle!

He picked us up from the port and even picked us up from another port in the night time (we survived from the most adventurous journey - thankful to Koji!). Talk about the place: the guesthouse is cozy and warm. The shared facilities included kitchen and washing machine. The price of ramen and washing pods are the same price in the convenience store and may be cheaper. E-bikes are also provided with the cheap rate (1000 yen/day).

The owners were super friendly and helped us figure out the best route to get to see all the attractions. They even invited us to a matcha ceremony and showed us around a bit! If you happen to want to visit Hokuei, you need to check out this place. We will be back again, for sure :)
