Very clean and comfortable. A/C available at an additional cost but we didn’t need it as the area was cool enough and the fan in the room was more than enough. Out host cooked up a delicious dinner and breakfast, sorted us some bicycles for cycling around the ancient city. He arranged for us a fantastic guide to take us around Polonnaruwa and we learned so much. I would highly recommend staying here.

This is a lovely and very well appointed family home of the host. I reached there in the evening and was settling down to rest. And heard some music and some sounds of singing somewhere nearby in the neighbourhood. I was eager to join into to a local celebration but hesitated. In sometime the host and his wife came by to apologise for the sound and the distrubance that this might be causing me. At that point I was bold enough to ask what the event was and whether I could join in. And they were extremely welcoming. So I spent the next few hours at their family karaoke in the next house with younger relatives who were visiting on a holiday. Everyone sang Sri Lankan songs and I joined in with one or two songs from Bollywood that we all knew. It was as if I'd known them forever. This was a charming evening - THAT MONEY COULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT - it just happened as a matter of luck. The memories will stay forever. The next day I was to leave - but one of the daughters was leaving for work before me - she came up to say bye to me - amazing 'family' vibes. Totally loved the connection. I hope our paths cross again!
