Vayots Dzor is severe and beautiful with its magnificent mountain landscapes. Mountain valleys and plateaus, narrow gorges, rapid rivers, mysterious caves (the largest is the Magil cave), Alpine pastures, small lakes and picturesque settlements looking as if growing from mountain slopes are the main attractions of the region. Noravank Monastery (XIII—XIV) , The Areni-1 cave complex (3900 BC), Selim Caravanserai (XIV AD), Smbataberd Fortress (V) are , Winery Areni, University of Gladzor, Magil Cave (1.7km deep) make the area worth seeing.
