City of Melk: Hundreds of thousands of guests from all continents come to Melk every year to visit the world-famous Benedictine abbey. Melk, which has had city rights for more than 100 years and first appears in documents as "Medilica" in 831, opens up to its guests like a magnificent illustrated book that you can leaf through. Hardly any other European city center offers such a variety of designs in such a small area, allowing visitors to travel through the centuries like in a time machine.
Wachau World Heritage Site:
The Wachau – on the one hand, is the 36 kilometer long river valley in Lower Austria, between Krems and Melk. But that's not all: The Wachau is also one of the most beautiful and valuable cultural and agricultural landscapes in Austria, a wine and gourmet region of world renown, and also home to great cultural achievements. It is not for nothing that this beautiful area was given the title of “World Heritage Site” by UNESCO.
On the Danube cycle path, through the Wachau:
Follow what is probably Europe's most famous cycle path! One of its most beautiful sections leads directly past the Hotel Wachau in Melk. “Sunday cyclists” also cycle effortlessly along the paths and paths, which sometimes offer a magnificent view: far beyond the Danube into the country. You can move from the north to the south bank and back as often as you want. There are bridges in Ybbs, Pöchlarn, Melk and Krems, ferries in Marbach, Spitz, Weißenkirchen and Dürnstein.
