Bronwyn & I met & married in 2 weeks in 1990! At the time we were both working in the London radio industry. And we both had a deep desire to travel. We ended up travelling in Southern Africa a year after we married- quitting our jobs. This African experience took in South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, & Zimbabwe & further strengthened our desire to travel to different continents. To this end upon arrival, back in the UK rather than head for London & jobs we bought a van, a tent & set about extensively traveling the UK. We made money/ends meet by attending auctions and flea markets picking up people's no longer loved stuff & on selling at car boot sales. A good week was getting enough to celebrate in the local town that we were staying in's Curry house! We loved that period of our lives but knew it could not last forever. When the time came to get a serious job again I was lucky enough to land a job in all places, Papua New Guinea. The next 6 years were spent running 4 Newspapers and we traveled extensively through the Pacific, Asia, Australia and the USA. Finally, 3 kids later, in 2003 we settled into life in Cairns. We think It's the best place in the world.
Cairns is a truly amazing place. The Great barrier Reef is doing fine and do not believe all the stories you read of its demise. Like any living animals (which the reef is made up of) they adapt/evolve and are fighting back as an extraordinary testament to nature's resolve. We can advise you if you would like, of the best areas to go out on the reef. As ex Scuba divers (and our children as current divers) we have regular intimate knowledge from the GBR reef operators of where to go and what you are likely to see. We want your time in Far North Queensland (Sir David Attenborough's favourite place on Earth) to be action-packed and filled with fun with lasting memories. So please come, stay and make memories to last a lifetime. Howie and Bronwyn
Kewarra Beach is bordered by the Coral Sea to the east and Kuranda National Park to the west. The Captain Cook Highway passes through the suburb from the south-west to the north (The Daintree Rainforest). A small shopping centre is located on Poolwood Road (800m away) and has a small grocery store, takeaway food outlets, and Pharmacy and Liquor store.
The foreshore reserve, Pelican Park, adjoins the beach. It has a swimming enclosure that excludes marine stingers (during marine stinger season from November-April) at the north end is also a free BBQ area that has plenty of seating, is undercover and has kids playground. A short walk 30 meters from our house allows you to walk to Trinity Beach (5 minutes) Trinity Beach has plenty of good restaurants and a Tavern on the seafront. This makes where you will stay the best place in Kewarra Beach because you get the benefit of the deserted beaches of Kewarra and the choice of plenty of places to have Coffee or fine Dine in the balmy evenings at Trinity Beach. This area is perfect for dog lovers and we love taking our dog Adele to the beach.
