Derby Digs Cottage is owned by a family that is very passionate about mountain biking, outdoor pursuits and quality family time. A mountain biking trip to Derby, started a love affair of this beautiful area in northeast Tasmania, the trails, the awesome rain forest and led to the purchase and passionate renovation of Derby Digs Cottage.
The name “Digs” means lodgings and it is our vision to specialise in lodgings for mountain bikers and families. It is our aim is to make your stay with us to be as comfortable and memorable as possible.
The cottage is situated on a generous piece of land and plans are underway to build Derby Digs Chalet in the near future. This will provide accommodation for bigger groups with the Derby Digs Cottage sleeping 8 and Derby Digs Chalet sleeping 6 comfortably.

Derby Digs Cottage is a spacious 3 bedroom cottage on a generous piece of land adjacent to Derby Forest Reserve. The Cottage sits on the mountain side, overlooking the Ringarooma River and has loads of charm and is made to create lasting memories. Derby Digs Cottage is an old miner’s cottage that has been renovated with passion to create cottage accommodation to suit mountain bikers and families. “Digs” means lodgings and we aim to make your stay with us to be as comfortable as possible.
Derby Digs Cottage accommodation is located at 5 Cascade Dam Road and is the closest property to the trail head and shuttle service. Ride down the lawn, out the front gate and you’re on the trails! Within 300m walking distance of the main street, pubs, cafes and bike shop – everything is literally on your doorstep.
Derby Digs Cottage is a light and spacious three bedroom cottage that sleeps up to 8 people. Two single beds in the main bedroom; 1 comfortable double bunk and a single bed in bedroom 2 and 3. A log wood heater is located in the heart of the cottage. Open plan living offers a relaxed and comfortable space for socialising.

Derby is located in the heart of Tasmania's north-east. It is rain forest country and surrounded by picturesque mountain, rivers and glorious views. Driving through this area provides endless views and panoramas. There is so much to do in this area including mountain biking; hiking; kayaking; prospecting; fishing and the list goes on. The town has a rich history in tin mining and offers museum tours and great coffee.
