This region was once part of Australia's gold rush history. Located 14km from Beechworth and 7 km from Yackandandah, Wooragee Valley is a beautiful valley mid way between Wodonga and Wangaratta. It is also the gateway to the small towns of Stanley, Milawa, Everton, Chiltern, and so on. It is 1 hr to Mt Buffalo, Bright and Mount Beauty and 1 1/2 hr to Falls Creek and Rutherglen. There is a lot guests can discovery here. Other than winery such the Brown Brothers, local produce such as Beechworth Honey, Milawa Cheese, good pies such as Gum Tree pies and Beechworth Bakery, guests may discover good food that use local produce and flowers, local breweries, nature walks and mountain/road cycling on the rail trail which is just across the front gate of the Retreat. Evidence of history of the region can be discovered in the architecture in all the small towns and guests who love history may visit various museums in Beechworth including the Goal and Prison. Evidence of the Gold Rush include old mine shafts and mullock heaps. We will be very happy to share with guests interested in discovering some of these 'off the beaten track' secret places.
