Jacomb's Cottage is our charming old world cottage set in a tranquil garden at the foothills of Walhalla, opposite Stringers Creek. It is perfect for a romantic getaway or to simply relax. When you are ready to unwind, curl up in front of the warm combustion fire with a good book, a hot chocolate or a glass of wine and you will be in Viking heaven...or should we say Walhalla.
Forget your worries and absorb yourself in the sheer beauty of this historic gold mining town with its rich story. The cottage replicates one of the dwellings of the original Jacomb's Criterion Hotel built in 1867, just 100m from the old gold mine. Located on the main road, it is within easy walking distance of the township shops. There is only one step up into the cottage and the property is nestled on flat terrain, making life easier for those who are not "Billy Goats".
The cottage has a single bedroom with queen bed. There is a Studio Room with a QS bed and 2 single beds opened when you book for 3-6 people or at additional charge if you book for only 2 people. The studio is separated from the main cottage by a short undercover decking. Please note guests of the studio room will need to access the main cottage to use the bathroom, which makes this room unsuitable for unsupervised young children.
We fell in love with Walhalla and visited many times before purchasing Jacomb's Cottage earlier in 2021. We are keen to make your experience in Walhalla as relaxing and magical as our own wonderful memories here. We strive to make the cottage as quaint and charming as can be so please advise us if there is anything a miss and we will endeavour to meet your satisfaction.
Walhalla is a gorgeous, friendly little township situated in a picturesque valley surrounded by lush forest. It is steeped in Victorian gold mining history and visitors are encouraged to tour the old gold mine and take the Goldfields Train Ride. The towns Post Office and Fire Brigade Museums are well worth a visit and the old cemetery rising above the town is well worth the short but steep walk. The night time ghost tour is an absolute must experience and tells of the towns difficult and sometimes disturbing past. Who knows whether you might see a real ghost or even a wandering deer at night. In the morning, don't forget to visit the quaint little shops, café and pub in town.
If you are feeling a little energetic, the cottage is just meters from the steep track leading to the Walhalla Cricket Ground or go and explore the beautiful Tramway Track overlooking the township.
While your here ,why not try panning for gold in Stringers Creek, who knows if you will start the next gold rush.
