The Artist’s Cottage is a heritage listed icon in the heart of picturesque Lettes Bay miner’s village. Absolute waterfront, the Cottage is owned and run by Tasmanian artist Kate and her writer & foodie husband Jay. A peaceful retreat at the edge of an island at the bottom of the world, you’ll find everything you need for a luxurious, relaxing, peaceful stay.
Every inch of The Cottage has been painstakingly restored including a stylish new kitchen and bathroom. Featuring an ever evolving array of original works by Kate and other Australian artists, an extensive library of fascinating books and artists materials for our guests to use, the space is designed to feed the mind, body and soul. Relax in the bath tub with a view of the bay, cook up a delicious Tasmanian feast in the kitchen or simply sit on the covered veranda and gaze out over the water.
Please note, although there is wifi at the Cottage and phone reception throughout West Coast Tasmania can be patchy so we recommend downloading arrival details including key code prior to starting your journey.
What's amazing is the setting. Right on the shoreline, this heritage cottage is former worker's shack, where hard working Queenstown residents would catch the train to the fresh air of Macquarie Harbour for the weekend.
We have a double kayak and life jackets if you want to explore the area from the water. Or simply unhook the hammock and rest up.
Kate & Jay are a husband and wife team that live in Sydney and Launceston, Tasmania. They share a passion for renovating homes and the Artists Cottage captures what they are about - style, simplicity and heritage.
The Artist’s Cottage is set on the shoreline of Macquarie Harbour hidden amongst the Heritage Listed miners village of Lettes Bay, a short drive from Strahan. Secluded in the World Heritage listed rugged West Coast of Tasmania, this is a magical place where the weather is ever changing and the natural beauty breathtaking.
While Lettes Bay is a secluded sanctuary, it is only 3 km from Strahan's restaurants, pharmacy, supermarket and world heritage cruise terminal and about 1 km from the wilderness railway.
The Cottage is all yours to enjoy with shared outdoor space throughout the old miner’s village for our guests and other cottage owners to share including jetties over the water. Sometimes it’s quiet and at other times you may find the village buzzing with activity - fishing, creative pursuits, boat building.
You have the option to partake using the amenities available in the Cottage or simply relax and enjoy watching the activity from your private veranda.
Wildlife is abundant, particularly the ducks! They are cute but they can hang out in front of the cottage, if they like you.
