English woman Antoinette Pignon Powle built the cottage in the 1860s, making it one of Bruny Island's oldest homes. Originally named Oakchester, it is also known to locals as Mr. Wisby's Cottage - when Antoinette made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, she asked her neighbor to look after the house. She never returned. The cottage has been restored inside and out. It features two bedrooms, one on the ground level and another upstairs providing a maximum capacity for two couples. Additional amenities include a dining room/kitchen, living room, outdoor entertainment area, and a bathroom/laundry with a walk-in shower and claw-foot bath. Minimum stay is two nights.

We live and work in Hobart and enjoy outdoors, food, wine and traveling. Always happy to meet new people and making new friends As we are offering the entire place, our interaction with our guests is quite partial. We respect their privacy and comfort so we are always happy to be in touch with them by phone or messages.

The cottage is located in 10 acres natural bushland resounded by country houses, farms and beautiful landscape. Bruny Island is the perfect destination for those who appreciate outdoor activities amidst the rugged beauty of unspoilt bushland and beaches. Cliffs and sea surfing (Cloudy Bay is approximately 30 mins drive from cottage. Bruny Island is also a popular destination for fishing (cast a line from the rocks or jetty, or launch your tinny from Alonnah or Adventure Bay boat ramps) and swimming (choose from the many surf and sheltered beaches around the island). Due to its natural environment and unique pastures, natural parks and light bushland, the only way to move around is by car or bike. There is no public transport.
