The garden at Bolobek is considered by many to be one of the finest in Australia. It is certainly one of the most written about and photographed private gardens in this country.
The Cottage at Bolobek was originally the ‘Station Hands’ house. It is located in the middle of the property right beside the historic garden. The Cottage has recently undergone a significant renovation.
Bolobek has appeared in magazines, books, newspapers and on television. The beautiful historic garden is arguably one of the most written about in this country and have over 6000 visitors.
Bolobek is an aboriginal word meaning undulating. The property was created when Oswald Syme, the youngest son of David Syme, purchased adjoining parcels of land between 1910 and 1914.
Bolobek originally covered more than 900 hectares. Some 270 hectares abutting Hamilton Road was excised after the 1952 bush fires. A further 70 hectares was sub-divided in the late 1990’s.
