Just a short drive from Sydney but a million miles from your cares, the Red Cottage is the perfect getaway for exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Blue Mountains. Sunny north-facing garden with views. Great for bushwalks, exploring waterfalls, scenic lookouts & Wentworth Falls Lake. Close to Leura & Katoomba & the Megalong Valley. Entertain on the deck (gas & charcoal BBQ), relax with a glass of wine by the wood burner or toast marshmallows around the firepit.
The cottage has three bedrooms, a study, open plan kitchen/diner, a spacious lounge with a wood burner and a garden studio with dartboard and fusball table. It is situated on a quiet residential street in the village of Wentworth Falls - famous for Charles Darwin visiting here in 1836 during his voyage on the Beagle which led to his groundbreaking theory of evolution by natural selection.
THE PATH (CAUTION - UNEVEN SURFACE)
The rustic sandstone path down to the house doesn’t have a handrail so do take care as there are a few lumps and bumps along the way. High heels not recommended but it's perfect for hiking boots!
The cottage is a few minutes' drive from the Valley of the Waters, the breathtaking Jamison Valley and the Darwin Walk (where, upon seeing a platypus, Darwin wondered why a Creator would make such a curious creature), and the quaint stores, cafes, bakery, grocery, butcher, bottle shop and post office in the village.
It is perfect for couples (or a couple of couples) who need space to work and relax or a family holiday or as a getaway for a group of friends.
Reflecting a love of both old and new, the bohemian cottage has an eclectic mix of collectibles from our travels, but especially artwork showcasing the unique Blue Mountains.
Help yourself to the fresh herbs in the garden, parsley, sage, rosemary & thyme. Also mint, kaffir lime leaves, oregano.
SPA BATH
Please note that whilst the spa bathtub is great for a relaxing soak, I'm afraid it is not co-operating in making any more bubbles
I won't be onsite during your stay but I will endeavour to respond without delay to any messages, or press the Ring doorbell if you'd like to talk. I may not always be available but I'll do my best.
SPA BATH
Please note that whilst the lovely big spa bathtub is great for a relaxing soak, I'm afraid it is not co-operating in making any more bubbles.
HEATING
The Red Cottage has very efficient gas central heating in all rooms. In addition, there is a traditional log burner. Sometimes you may find some logs and kindling in the baskets on the hearth, or stored under the deck, which you are welcome to use. The local shops and garages sell both kindling and logs.
BBQ
The bbq has gas (provided), however, if you want to use the charcoal burner, please bring your own charcoal. You may be lucky and find some in the red box.
Quiet residential neighbourhood. 4 minute drive to shops, cafes and train station.
There is a regular train service to Wentworth Falls from Sydney. It also connects Wentworth Falls to Leura, Katoomba, Blackheath, Lithgow and beyond. There is also a regular bus service nearby with buses into Leura and Katoomba.
Having a car gives a lot more flexibility to get to walking tracks, waterfalls and lookouts.
There is plenty of free street parking at the Red Cottage.
There is a charge for parking in the centre of popular Blue Mountains towns and villages such as Wentworth Falls, Leura and Katoomba and it is restricted to 1 or 2 hours although you can generally find plenty of free street parking just a few minutes' walk from the town centres.
